Split Rock Light is located on the North Shore of Lake Superior a little South of Silver Bay, Minnesota. It was built in 1910 on a 130 foot tall sheer cliff, 5 years after the loss of 29 ships on the lake during the killer Mataafa Storm.
The nautical lighthouse art on the mirror is etched with a top-secret etching process designed to capture every detail and every delicate shading of the original painting.
Some of the features of this nautical art mirror:
- Frame made of top-quality hardwoods you find in fine, hand-crafted furniture
- No plastic & no resin used
- No "reconstituted wood products" (a polite name for a sawdust and glue mixture that is molded and painted to look like real wood)
- 100% solid hardwood
- Hand-rubbed, double lacquer finish
- Skilled artisans etch each piece individually; no etching is done by machine. Yet every etching of the artwork you choose is identical. Your etching will look exactly like what you see here
- You'll find the etching so delicate that the etched surface feels almost as smooth as polished glass
- Yet, delicate as it is, your etching is still permanent. Clean it, polish it as much as you like. Your etching will never fade or wear off
Gentle waters invite boaters of every kind out onto the waters of Lake Superior. But the lake is not always so inviting.
Split Rock Lighthouse stands high atop the rocky cliff—a reminder of how treacherous those waters often become and a sign of protection and safety for all those who love the wide expanses of water over which it keeps watch.
