Handcrafted Mischief 1881 Half Hull Wooden Model
This expert level, highly detailed, museum quality, Mischief 1881 model is brand new, fully assembled and ready for display (not a kit).
This America's Cup half hull model was crafted in mahogany and tropical hard woods by the traditional plank on bulkhead method. After the bulkheads are laid and the hull lines trued, the hull is planked with individual wooden strips to form a smooth silhouette.
The Mischief 1881 model is then sanded, hand painted with dark green topsides and a red cove stripe. The hull is stained and varnished to a mirror-like finish. The half hull is then mounted on a ready to hang wooden plaque, with an engraved brass nameplate. The half hull model is built exactly to scale as the original Mischief was. The task required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish.

The Mischief was launched in 1879 and was designed by Archibald Cary Smith. She was built for Joseph R. Busk of the New York Yacht Club. She went on to be the victorious American defender of the fourth America's Cup race in 1881 against Canadian challenger "Atalanta".
The Mischief a centerboard sloop was built of iron construction and was nicknamed "The Iron Pot". It was the second all metal yacht to be built in the United States. The Mischief was seized in 1904 for suspected smuggling between the United States and Canada, was stripped of its yacht registration.
It was bought in 1906 by the Mayflower Oil Company and used as a barge for shipping oil in Boston. In 1929 it was towed offshore to be scuttled and finally sunk after being bombarded by the navy warship "Mojave". Her last day was saluted and viewed by over 20 yachts from East Coast Yacht Clubs.

The half hull model plaque measures 29.5"(75cm) x 7.8"(20cm) and the model measures 23.6"(60cm) long from bow to stern. It's an historic half hull model sailboat that is sure to become a treasured family heirloom.
